Tamborine Mountain

Well, it is not really a mountain…

It’s an undulating plateau, a maximum 8 kms long and 4kms wide, at 500-550 metres above sea level and lofted above the hinterland between the Pacific and the Great Dividing Range: an island in the sky with shores of subtropical rainforest – home to over 7000 people who are settled along its length and breadth. The main localities are North Tamborine, Eagle Heights and, occupying the southern half of the plateau, Mount Tamborine.

Where?

In South East Queensland, long the fastest growing region of Australia, inland from the Gold Coast, south of Brisbane.

OUTSTANDING BIODIVERSITY

The Tamborine Mountain plateau is encircled by an escarpment with ten distinct vegetation communities, including National Parks with sub-tropical rainforest.

The Mountain’s biodiversity is on a par with that of World Heritage listed areas such as the nearby Lamington National Park.
